Scientific Arts Logo

Scientific Arts has created animations and 3D renderings for a wide range of clients in areas such as broadcast advertising and educational media. These clients include Vermeer, John Deere, Maytag and Principal Financial Group.

This is the first logo I’ve created for another creative company. It is both exciting and nerve racking at the same time, because you don’t want them to look at your finished product and think “I could do better myself.” But a lot of times (and I know from experience) the hardest client to please is yourself, so I can definitely see how using another designer to brand your company could be helpful.

I decided to explore the relationship between the letters S and A. I tried several variations until I came up with this interesting play on positive and negative space. Since the client works mainly using 3D software, I thought it would be beneficial to give the icon some dimension, so I added perspective and another plane. I also went with a hatching texture to further distinguish this plane from the one the letters are on. Doing so also allowed me to stick with using only two colors.
